Description:
The charismatic Glen Moray Port Cask Speyside Whisky from Scotland uses port casks from Portugal, which, in contrast to sherry casks from Spain, are still the exception rather than the rule. The Speyside malt from the Glen Moray distillery, which has been successful for more than 100 years, first spends a few years in traditional American white oak casks. It then undergoes a finishing process of eight months, during which it rests in a Tawny Port cask made from European oak. This post-maturing has shaped the beautiful hue from reddish gold to amber as well as the taste. In the glass, Glen Moray has an appealing golden color. The bouquet is fresh. Notes of light fruits such as apples and pears give the whisky a tanginess. The palate reveals a harmonious mouthfeel. Fruity notes are also dominant here and are complemented by a subtle nuttiness. The finish is comparatively long and seduces with honey sweetness. Vanilla and cocoa round off the enjoyment, which leaves you wanting more. The influence of the port cask is undeniable, but the original character of the whisky is not completely lost.
